The Fourth of July is just around the corner. We will be enjoying outdoor activities, trips to the beach, BBQs and our favorite; fireworks. While the Fourth of July is an important day in remembering the signing of the Declaration of Independence, there are some important things to remember when enjoying the sights and sounds of fireworks.
Keep your distance
Fireworks are stunningly beautiful, even when you can’t hear them. you don’t need to be front-and-center to enjoy their beauty. The further away you are from the source, the safer your ears are from the sounds of the explosions. If you have a clear line of sight far away, this would be the best and safest way to enjoy fireworks.
Use ear plugs
Chances are, you may have used these in the past, especially if you are an avid concert-goer. Ear plugs are a great, cheap way to protect your hearing, while enjoying fireworks, even up close. They are cheap, easy to use and can decrease the decibel levels by upwards of 30dB.
Recognize when you hearing my have problems
You may not fully feel damage done by loud fireworks until the next morning. If you wake up with ringing, buzzing, or even muffling in your ears, you may be experiencing some noise-induced hearing loss. These symptoms should not be ignored, especially if they continue to worsen over time.
