We’ve all heard them before and most of us still believe them; wives tale’s.  Told to us by our elders,but as we get older, continue to use them as part of our daily routine.  Things like, “don’t go out with wet hair, you’ll get a cold” or if you wake up with a hangover, “have some hair of the dog that bit ya and you’ll be fine”.  Phrases like these are heard often and are believe dot be true when they are indeed scientifically innacurate.  However, there are some old wives tales about your health, that are actually proven true.  Check out below which ones you can continue to say…

An Apple A Day Keeps the Doctor Away

It’s true that having a balanced diet will keep you healthy, so adding apples is a great, fun way to do so. Apples are filled with antioxidants which are responsible for preventing free radical damage.  Apple consumption has also been shown to actually lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer.

Early to Bed, Early to Rise

It’s unfortunate, but many of us do not get enough sleep.  Sleep is one of the most important things we need to keep our brains and body healthy.  It’s important that we aim for at least eight hours of sleep every night.  Good sleeping habits allow for a better sleep schedule and if you get to bed at a reasonable time, you indeed can be early to rise.

Chicken Soup Can cure A Cold

Well, maybe “cure” might be a bit over dramatic, but having chicken soup during a cold, can speed up the healing process.  It is able to keep you hydrated by encouraging drinking with it’s salt content and contains vegetables, and protein your body needs.  There are also mental benefits as chicken noodle soup reminds us of the times we were sick when we were children and we could bundle up with a nice bowl of hot soup.

Toothpaste Will Help Clear Up a Zit

While this may not be the most effective way of eliminating acne, putting a spot of toothpaste on a zit will indeed dry it out.  Zits are filled with bacteria and bacteria needs oxygen to grow.  Putting a dash of toothpaste on it will cut off bacteria from oxygen and dry it out.  The only downfall is that it can cause redness and irritation, but your zits will be history.
