Five Tips for Surviving the Holidays with Hearing Loss

Holidays with Hearing Loss

Whether you have hearing loss or not, the holiday season can be stressful for anyone. But, if you have a hearing loss, attending family gatherings with many people can add another layer of undo stress. Here at Beltone, while we don’t want any of our patients to miss out on important, fun things like holiday gatherings, we want to prepare you with these “survival” tips so that you have an enjoyable holiday season with family.

Spend time with your family members one-on-one.
Find a quiet room in the house or party venue if the background noise is just too loud. Ask the other person if they wouldn’t mind finding a quiet room to chat. Even for those of us without hearing loss, trying to hold a conversation during a football game on the TV, laughter and many different conversations going on in the background, it’s enough to give you a headache!

Make sure you have enough fresh batteries.
Because you may be adjusting your hearing aids or using your Beltone HearPlus App more frequently than you would on a normal day at home, your battery life may not last as long as usual.  Stock up on your batteries by visiting your local Beltone office.

Find a Dinner Buddy.
Try to sit next to someone who will be willing to keep you in on the conversation if you miss anything that has been said.

Make sure your hearing aids are functioning properly.
Visit one of our local Beltone offices for a FREE clean and check of your hearing aids before the holiday season starts so your devices are working at their maximum potential.

Have fun.
Enjoy the sounds and laughter of your kids, grandkids or family members as they open presents or sit around the table. This may be the first time you’re experiencing certain sounds in a very long time. Sit back, relax and enjoy the sounds of the season.

To find your local Beltone office for new batteries or for a FREE clean and check, call us at 1-800-Beltone or, visit Beltone.com.
